Pendant made of semi-precious stone JADE
The stone revered by the Chinese as "jade" is found in two varieties: nephrite and jadeite. Nephrite is slightly more lustrous and heavier, while jadeite is a bit harder. Interestingly, a musical tone can be produced by striking nephrite, but not jadeite. Nephrite is most often found in a range of green shades, but it can also appear in other tones, from white to grey, yellowish or brownish, and can even be nearly black. Nephrite with a deep and even green color is considered the most valuable. Sometimes, it may be impregnated or dyed to enhance the quality and color of the material, although this is less common than with jadeite. Nephrite is an excellent gemstone for jewelry making. It is usually polished into cabochons or beads and used for pendants, bracelets, necklaces, rings, and earrings. Especially popular in Asia, nephrite is also crafted into talismans, amulets, brooches, decorative pins, and hair ornaments.
