How to paint by numbers?

The first thing you need to do is choose a well-lit place to work at. This way, you won’t strain your eyes by staring at small segments and fine lines. Arrange all the materials and tools you will use on the table and you are ready to go!

How to paint with acrylic paints?

Our paint by numbers sets come with water-based acrylic paints. Their colors are very saturated, so the finished pictures are vivid and colorful. They’re all dry pretty quickly, so open only the ones you need to use. Thanks to the special sealed containers in which the paints are stored, they can last for a long time, but once opened, their shelf life begins to decrease rapidly.

Try to lift the lid of the jar slowly without damaging it. Before you start, check the consistency of the paint. Stir with a toothpick if needed. Then dampen a small brush and choose whether you will start painting the larger or smaller sections of the painting. If you don’t want the outline and numbers to be visible, color them twice.

Keeping paint colors clean

Be careful when cleaning the brush before dipping it in another color. You don’t want to mix up the colors. A slightly darker color can easily mess up a lighter one if mixed up. If you accidentally do this, don’t stir it, but use the corner of a clean tissue to try to remove it.

Take care of your brushes

When you start painting, have a glass of water handy to rinse the brushes. You’ll also need makeup pads to dry them up.

Usually paint by number kits have 2-3 brushes each, it all depends on the type. All accessories for painting included in the set are high quality and will make finishing the picture easier. For example, dark and light colors are applied separately or painted with a zero size brush. However, some hobbyists prefer to get their own tools for convenience and more versatility.

Hold the brush the same way you would hold a pen.

Basic brush care requirements:

• When you finish painting, wash your brush with soap  and dry with paper towels;
• Then, try to restore the brushes to their original appearance. Never leave them wet - they can get damaged;
• Never experiment with cleaning chemicals;
• Stir the paints with a stick, not with brushes;

After you finish painting, don’t forget to evaluate it from a distance. Step back about 3-4 meters and see where and what the flaws are. Perhaps a number is visible somewhere or a small area is not painted.

How to choose an acrylic varnish?

In order to protect your picture from fading, it is recommended to cover it with acrylic varnish. Better do this a week after finishing, so that the paints will have time to dry and nothing will smear when the next layer is applied. There are two types of varnish - gloss and matte. The first will emphasize the brightness of the picture, and the second will remove unnecessary glare.

Images in frames always look more special. It’s more visually pleasing, the frame drives your eye in and helps you appreciate the painting more. You can also buy a tripod and attach it to it. This is an original and stylish way to showcase your art.
