Discs have three main uses — all as a structural element that shapes the whole strand:

• Spacers in bracelets and necklaces. The main use. A thin disc separates the larger beads and sets an even rhythm along the whole length. Alternate discs with round beads or other shapes — that gives the strand rhythm and lets the flat shape show up better.
• An accent in charms. Flat wooden pieces sit well against a red-and-white cord and add a natural, handmade detail to spring charms. Thicker discs can also work as a feature on their own, not just as a spacer.
• Decorations and macramé. Thanks to their lightness and wide hole, discs are useful beyond jewellery too — for garlands, danglers, macramé accents and children’s projects.

What to combine them with

Discs go naturally with wooden beads — the material and weight are similar. For contrast, add metal spacers, which set off the wood. Elastic cord is handy for bracelets, while necklaces and macramé call for a thicker cotton cord that suits the wide hole.
