How to use them
These beads already have color and a pattern, so they work best as an accent. The whole strand doesn’t need to be made of patterned beads — sometimes 3–5 well-placed pieces are enough.
How to choose
First, decide whether the bead will be the main element or just a color detail. If the pattern is strong, surround it with simpler beads, cord or textile. If the pattern is lighter, you can combine several different colors in one project.
- Size. Smaller beads are suitable for bracelets, charms and children’s projects. Larger ones sit better in necklaces, keychains and decorations.
- Hole. Check whether the hole fits your chosen base — elastic, cord, wire, cotton string or thread.
- Pattern. If the motif is very colorful, combine it with single-color elements. That way the bead stays an accent and the project doesn’t look cluttered.
Project ideas
- Boho bracelet. Combine painted wooden beads with natural wooden beads, leather cord or cotton string. Leave the patterned beads as an accent every few elements.
- Colorful cord charm. Add a single painted bead to a plain cord or elastic for a cheerful accent. Great for children’s models and small gifts.
- Decorating a garment or bag. Sew a few beads onto a pocket, collar, cloth bag or backpack. It looks best when you echo the colors of the garment or add a small contrast.
- Card or gift tag. Flat shapes and lighter beads can be glued onto kraft paper, cardboard or gift wrap as a small color detail.
Materials
For jewelry, you’ll need a base for stringing. For clothing and textiles — thread and needle. For decorations and cards — suitable glue and a stable base.
Care and working with painted beads
Painted wooden beads have a decorative surface, so protect them from frequent wetting, hard rubbing, perfume, cosmetics and rough pressing with tools. If you use them in a bracelet for everyday wear, place the most patterned beads in spots with less friction.
If you’ll be sewing them onto a garment or bag, first arrange the design and photograph it. Use strong thread and don’t pull too tightly, so you don’t damage the wood around the hole.
